This track was now composed a decade ago, but had never made it's way onto Bandcamp. Sticks & Stones was probably the first electronic piece I wrote that was truly successful.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such an inspiring artist in Vivien - who's pieces were so unique. It's fantastic to have been able to capture and catalogue the sound of this sculpture and add to the history of the "Last of the English Alabaster".
The name Sticks & Stones, while playfully referencing the children's rhyme, was also an allusion to the core materials used in Vivien's sculpture - referencing the parallels in her process, where she relied on the emergent shapes and properties of her materials just as I did with my source sounds and processing, which were then collaged into this piece.

Original description from the May 2013 upload:
Piece written using the sounds from Vivien Whitaker's 'Lithophone' and 'Power Of Four' sculptures. I tried to be as true to the source materials as possible, maintaining the pitch and, in many cases, elements of the sonic qualities, despite various degrees of manipulation. The piece also contains sea sounds, as a reference to the mood set by Vivien's sculptures, as well as the 'Daughter of the Sea' sculpture.
The piece was originally written for the Music in the Round 'Silent Art' auction, which raised money for Music in the Round to purchase a new Grand Piano. It premièred at the opening of the auction, where a version suitable for background listening, almost identical to this version, was played as people viewed the sculpture.
